Google India Launched a new Kormo app in India for entry level job Seekers. Let’s take look into brief.
“The crowning fortune of a man is to be born to some pursuit which finds him employment and happiness, whether it be to make baskets, or broadswords, or canals, or statues, or songs.”Ralph Waldo Emerson
As part of its plans to enter the professional networking and job-search market in India. Google has launched the ‘Kormo’ app to help users look for entry-level jobs.
Google said on Wednesday it has expanded its jobs app, called Kormo Jobs, to India as the Search giant looks to offer a helping hand to millions looking for entry-level roles and further displace Microsoft’s LinkedIn relevance in the world’s second largest internet market. Kormo Jobs first launched in Bangladesh in 2018, and then was expanded to Indonesia in 2019. The Kormo Jobs app lists jobs, and also allows individuals to create their digital Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Kormo has been operating as ‘Jobs Spot’ on Google Play in India since last year. According to Google, a number of companies, including food-delivery startups have advertised more than two million verified jobs on the platform. Google said today it is rebranding Jobs Spot on Google Pay as Kormo Jobs in India and also making its standalone Android app available in one of its key overseas markets. In addition to helping users identify open calls for entry-level roles, Kormo Jobs app is also designed to help them learn new skills, and easily create a CV.
“The company will continue to invest in bringing new features and jobs to the app in the future.” said by Bickey Russell, Regional Manager and Operations Lead at Kormo.
“In the wake of the pandemic, the jobs landscape stands altered, with demand shifting to new services that require different sets of skills and experience. Businesses of all sizes face the challenges of the new normal, while job seekers are having to adapt to this shift quickly,” wrote Bickey Russell (Regional Manager and Operations Lead at Kormo) in a blog.
He also added “We are heartened to be able to play a helpful role in facilitating connections to impact lives for the better, including introducing important features like remote interviewing earlier this year to ensure social distancing.”
Jobs Spot on Google Pay was specifically designed for entry-level positions. With Kormo Jobs, Google may go beyond entry-level positions to compete with LinkedIn as well as India job portals including Naukri, TimesJobs, etc. The launching of the Google app could also make the competition tougher for classified advertising platforms like Olx that have dedicated job listings for job seekers.
Google launched a jobs search search engine in 2017 in the U.S., which it has expanded to several markets since. In April 2018, Google partnered with job portals such as Aasaanjobs, Freshersworld, Headhonchos, IBM Talent Management Solutions, LinkedIn, Quezx, and Shine to bring job listings to its search engine in India.
Regardless any app that helps people find jobs of any kind would come in handy to tens of millions of Indians — if not more — as the nation reports record-high unemployment figures at the height of a global pandemic.
